Author : J.P Wolfe

Genre : Fiction , Detective , Mystery , Adventure ..

Synopsis

In the small town of Punta Gorda, Florida, young Bobby Weeks messes around in his dad’s stuff and finds an old fireman game. He takes it but plans to return it later, not knowing that he’s just set a plot in motion that could get him and his whole family killed. Soon, some thugs called Dog and Jug come knocking, and the trouble begins.

Detective Gill Phuk and his partner Hattie Shanks are the top detectives of their division, not that there’s often much to do in their quiet community. When things start to go a bit haywire, they’re called in to investigate. They’re used to dealing with a colorful mix of characters, but when a multiple murder occurs, it’s all hands on deck.

Bobby never could have guessed a silly game could cause so much destruction, but he also probably didn’t know his dad, Bill, was designing a search engine for the military. Phuk and Shanks have trouble of their own dealing with a notorious criminal known as the “Commander.” Thugs and suspicious beauties run amok in this small historic town as two tough detectives try to solve a mystery, stop a crime, and save the day.

My Review

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for a honest review 🙂 . (Who found my blog through IndieView )

Okay , first off I love detective novels .

So I was really looking forward to this one , no kidding . The backdrop was nice . The setting was cool too . And the names got me intrigued from the first , haha . Phuk and Shanks eh ? Lets jump right in .

It was a lil hard to get into at the beginning (I wasn’t a huge fan of the writing style)  but ultimately , it was an overall pretty nice read 🙂

Some parts weren’t that perfectly executed I  felt but that being said, A few moments had me going

And that’s pretty cool imo 😉 . So the author does a pretty good job for his debut  !

Overall Rating

(Maybe I’m being too critical here, maybe not  :3)

I’d recommend everyone to give it a try 🙂

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Book Review :

Genre : Fantasy , Fiction , Magic , Young Adult

Synopsis

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

My Review :

It turned out pretty good . No kidding .

Harry’s a Minister of Magic , Ron’s goofy as usual and Hermione is her usual self .

They have to bond together again in order to take down The Cursed Child ,

Who happens to be Tom’s kid .

A wonder his wand was still working . (Ew , I know )

Albus and Scorpius‘ relationship is heart-rendering .

New Squad Goals .

And Draco is all grown up now . Responsible and stuff instead of wimpy .

Best Moment :

Pssst , Snape appears for a short while and Gods , what a scene . Ron maybe the only guy who made it outta the friendzone but Snape is the only guy who goes through so much after being friendzoned  imo . However I digress . That part was just breath-taking .

Best Character

Scorpius Malfoy .

He’s adorable , fun and all in all very entertaining . Some of his exploits are just amazing .

The Not So Good Part :

The Play Format is pretty different after getting used to all the previous books . But that’s a small obstacle to overcome if ya really wanna read it . (And some parts were pretty different from what I expected )

Best Quote :

“Harry, there is never a perfect answer in this messy, emotional world. Perfection is beyond the reach of humankind, beyond the reach of magic. In every shining moment of happiness is that drop of poison: the knowledge that pain will come again. Be honest to those you love, show your pain. To suffer is as human as to breathe.”

Its a nostalgic and enjoyable ride all right . I’d recommend it to every Hp fan out there . But ….its more of a standalone than a sequel

This one’s a whopper . No kidding .

“Nathaniel is a boy magician-in-training, sold to the government by his birth parents at the age of five and sent to live as an apprentice to a master. Powerful magicians rule Britain, and its empire, and Nathaniel is told his is the “ultimate sacrifice” for a “noble destiny.”

Hmm reminds you a teeeeny bit of Harry Potter , doesn’t it ?

game of thrones jon snow you know nothing

It’s totally unrelated . The similarities with HP are that both deal with magic . That’s all.

This book introduces a very interesting premise involving a 5000 year old djinni .

It’s pronounced genie fyi

Disney shocked aladdin genie jaw drop

Nope , not this guy .

This book’s darker , witty , soulful and a surprisingly realistic read .

Nathaniel left to the whims of his not so great master , breaks and out and summons Bartimaeus , the aforementioned djinni to avenge his insult at the hands of Simon Lovelace , a ruthless practitioner by trying to steal The Amulet of Samarkhand

The characters and settings are wonderfully drawn out .

BEST CHARACTER

Bartimaeus , No guesses there .

Oh my God , Bartimaeus is like the main Highlight of this WHOLE book . His quips , quirks , arrogance and demeanor keep you so brilliantly engrossed , you actually begin rooting for him.

BEST QUOTES

“One magician demanded I show him an image of the love of his life. I rustled up a mirror.”

“I had a chance at him now. Things were a bit more even. He knew my name, I knew his. He had six years’ experience, I had five thousand and ten. That was the kind of odds that you could do something with.”
